Savannah Guides recruits one of our own as first female President

Launching herself into the great outdoors, immersed in nature and surrounded by wildlife, Michelle Whitehouse began living out her passion in 2016 amongst the pristine sandstone beauty of Carnarvon Gorge.
Committing herself wholly to developing a greater understanding of, and appreciation for, the natural and cultural history of this special landscape, Michelle drew on her knowledge of other Australian destinations she had previously guided in, such as Kangaroo Island, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Winton, and Kakadu.
With a dedication to enriching the guest experience, Michelle quickly grew her knowledge and understanding – working, learning, and exploring alongside Australian Nature Guide’s Simon Ling.
During this time, Michelle earned her badge as an accredited Savannah Guide, joining the notable network of professional guides and operators, demonstrating a commitment to conservation values, and meeting the strict standards of operation to achieve her accreditation.
Now, her devotion to fostering ecological sustainability and providing high-quality interpretive tourism has led to her appointment as the first female President of the not-for-profit organisation.
Following previous President Mick Clark’s seven-year tenure, Michelle was voted in by her peers to take the reigns and hopes to hold the reputable position as long as she is able to contribute to Savannah Guides’ sustainable growth.
“I am honoured to lead this group of professional tour guides as we collectively work toward fulfilling our roles as the Protectors and Interpreters of the Outback,” Michelle said. “My ‘office’ is truly iconic, and I am so grateful to have the ability to lead a healthy, active life in the great outdoors, sharing stories and meeting new and interesting people every day.”
“I am looking forward to taking on this new challenge and working with my colleagues to enhance visitor experiences and provide them with a deeper understanding of the natural and cultural histories of our locations,” Michelle said.
Capricorn Enterprise CEO, Mary Carroll extended her congratulations to Michelle, proud to have the Tropic of Capricorn represented at this elite level.
