This website has been set up as a resource to assist the communities of the Central Highlands in the recovery and rebuilding process after the January 2008 floods.

“THE floodwaters may have receded but today, more than a month down the track, the full extent of the recovery task ahead is still being realised.

Emerald Shire Council established the Central Highlands Local Disaster Community Recovery Group, chaired by Cr Kerry Hayes, and through it the Central Highlands Community Recovery Program knowing full well the task ahead was a challenging one. But Council also had full confidence that the people involved and this community were up to that challenge.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge all those people who have worked so tirelessly to get our community back on its feet – whether they are volunteers or workers, locals or visitors, friends or strangers.
